Hello from Kampala!

I have now been here just over a week and I think an update is long overdue. Uganda is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a while, so it’s absolutely amazing to finally be here.

"You should let the older lady sit down"

Last week I was doing a bunch of last minute running around with my mom to prepare for my upcoming trip. There was lots to do and many stores to visit. After my doctor’s appointment and checking a few things off my list, we took a little break and stopped for brunch. The restaurant we went to was very busy and we were told we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. We were looking forward to the food there so this was no big deal.

My wish for you this Christmas

Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. All the decorations and spirit make me smile. It fills me with so much joy to spend time appreciating friends, family, and all the special people in my life. I recently asked people what they like most about this holiday season and they said things like having time off work, staying in pajamas all day watching Christmas movies, waking up on Christmas morning, and relaxing with family. Just hearing these things made me so happy because it's all so magical.

Packing Tips for your Me to We Trip!

After being on so many trips with Me to We, I get lots of questions on what to pack, so here you go!

Below the video, there's a slightly more comprehensive list of things to think about.  Of course it doesn't include absolutely everything as certain things may vary from person to person and trip to trip.  Additionally, some of the stuff is optional as well - it's simply a list of suggestions from experience.  Please feel free to post your questions and I'll be sure to answer!

Back to school in style: 5 brands that make a difference

It's that time of year when students are all heading back to school.  Depending where you live you've either just gone back or are about to.  It's always fun to have a new outfit or two to kick off the new semester and new season.  As you're thinking about what you're going to wear I figured I'd throw out some ideas.

These companies I want to share with you are so awesome and I really hope you take the time to check them out.  You will be very glad you did because they are perfect for any time of year.  Not only will you look good, but you can feel good too because your clothes will be making a difference.

A good portion of my clothes are from these five socially conscious clothing companies:

What I noticed when the power went out

We've been lucky with some really beautiful weather, but we've definitely been in need of some rain.  That rain finally arrived, along with a windstorm, leaving many people throughout BC without power.  I was at work when the power went out and I realized just how much we rely on electricity.  As word came about more and more power outages throughout town and neighbouring cities, I was curious how people would react, especially as we became one of the only grocery stores that got power back.

Help, Healing, Hope

The other day, I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of Kids Help Phone at the Boston Pizza Foundation Invitational Charity Golf Tournament.  I never thought I would stand up in front of an audience and share these parts of my journey.  But I did, and it felt as though it gave me a bit more power over the darker moments of my life.

March/April Word of the Month ~ Peacefulness

I've been kind of behind on blogging!  Life has been pretty busy between finishing up the Spring semester, working, appointments, and tests.  Turns out I have another gallstone.  I've lost track of how many that's been since I had my gallbladder removed, just like I've lost track of how many surgeries I've had.  I've been feeling not so great for a while now but my bloodwork came back fine, so we thought things were okay.  But then I had an ultrasound just to be sure before I leave for

Live life. Pass it on. #48in48

I first shared this story a while ago now, but I want to repost it here since it seems fitting!  Currently over 4,300 Canadians are waiting for transplant and on average, 230 die each year while waiting.  #48in48 is a goal to get 48,000 Canadians registered for organ donation in 48 hours.  I'm registered.  Are you?  A 90% majority of Canadians support organ and tissue donation but less than 25% have made plans to donate.  You can register by going to LiveOn.ca

Some Special Shout-outs ♥

For the past little while I haven't really gotten around to blogging or posting much, but I need to send out this special thank you message!  The Avalon Sisters and Epic Yoga and Fitness have really helped out with my fundraising for my Me to We trip to India and I'm extremely grateful for their wonderful support, and for the support of all the absolutely amazing people in my life.  Much love to you all.
