The Job of a Mountain

The Job Of A Mountain
Miranda Tymoschuk

The job of a mountain is to be massive, to be
Tree lined, to be plant covered, to be rocky,
Crevassed, rough, and jagged.  The job of a mountain
Is to be snowy, to be skied on or
To be sled down.
The job of a mountain is to be frozen,
Icy, slippery, bone chilling, and
Avalanche prone.  The job of a mountain is to give a magnificent view,
To be majestic and mighty.  To be photographed,
And hung on walls or put in calendars.
The job of a mountain is to be the home to fascinating creatures, glistening lakes, and rushing streams.  The job of a mountain is to
Stretch across land.
To be flown over, to be driven over, to be lived on, to be avoided,
Dangerous, deadly, and to be deserted.
The job of a mountain is to be potentially volcanic,
To spew ash.
The job of a mountain is to teach you.  The job of a mountain is to change lives.
The job of a mountain is to be torturous or to be thrilling.
To create memories you hold onto forever and memories you wish you could forget.
The job of a mountain is to get in your way, to be difficult, to be immoveable.  To be
Strong and solid.
The job of a mountain is to be climbed and conquered.
